All MRSc applicants are encouraged to read the Overview of the Admissions Process on the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies for detailed information. The following is a summary of the steps you need to take to complete your application. If you have not done so already, review the section MRSc Admission Requirements to ensure you are eligible for the program.
There is a non-refundable application fee of $104.00 for Canadian residents and $168.25 CDN for international applicants payable to the Faculty of Graduate and Post-Doctoral Studies.
Application fees are valid for one application year only. If you begin the application process and then decide to defer, you may need to pay another application fee depending on the length of the delay. Find out more

Application Process
1. Start an application online
Start an application online through the Faculty of Graduate and Post-doctoral Studies online application system. You will need to create a new CWL account if you don’t already have one. Existing UBC students can login using their current CWL credentials.
Choose Rehabilitation Science-Online Program, M.R.Sc. (Please note, online learners are considered part-time at UBC even though you may decide to pursue full-time studies with us).
2. Upload your transcripts
Upload your transcripts from all post-secondary institutions that you have attended (except UBC)
You must upload official transcripts from all colleges and universities you have attended (including transcripts from institutions attended while on exchange or institutions from which you transferred credits), into the application system in Academic History. Please note that all documents uploaded must be in PDF format. Print-outs or screenshots of unofficial results or transcripts will not be accepted.
- All pages of one transcript, front and back, are to be uploaded as a single file (not a separate file for each page)
Note to International Applicants: The Faculty of Graduate and Post-doctoral Studies has very strict requirements for these documents. Please refer to their website for information about the official document requirements for international applicants.
Please note that the online application system will allow transcripts to be uploaded onto your application after the application has been submitted. You have until the document deadline to submit all of your documents.
3. English Language Proficiency (if applicable)
Provide details of your English Language Proficiency Examination results (if applicable)
If applicable, the application system will ask if you have completed acceptable English language proficiency tests.
If you completed your degree at a university outside of Canada in which English is not the primary language, you must provide results of an English language proficiency examination as part of your application. Tests must have been taken within the last 24 months at the time of submission of your application. For more information, refer to the MRSc Admission Requirements page.
TOEFL and IELTS test takers must request electronic submission of their scores to UBC. We accept electronic delivery directly from the test centre to UBC only. For all other tests an official paper test score report ordered from the testing agency is required. Photocopies of test scores are not acceptable. Ask the testing centre to send the English Language test results directly to us at:

4. Prepare your Statement of Intent & CV
Your statement of intent should be no longer than 500 words. You may wish to prepare it ahead of time and then cut and paste it into the online form. Include your reasons for pursuing the degree, your relevant experience in rehabilitation, and describe how this experience will enhance your ability to complete the program requirements and transfer your new knowledge to rehabilitation practice.
Provide an up-to-date curriculum vitae or resume detailing your academic and work history, and noting any additional relevant experiences, such as additional courses, presentations given, publications and volunteer work.
5. Professional organization & membership number
Have the name(s) of your professional organization(s) and membership number(s), and the name of the regulatory college for your health profession and certification number at hand so you are ready to enter them into the application.
6. Birth Certificate or Marriage Certificate (if applicable)
If any of your documents (for example transcripts) are issued under a different name, please provide proof to support a name change such as a Marriage Certificate.
7. Permanent Resident Card (if applicable)
If you are applying as a Permanent Resident, you are required to provide proof of immigration status and date of landing by submitting a copy of both the front and back of your Permanent Resident documentation.
8. Provide the contact information of your referees
You are required to submit the contact information for three referees. Choose academic or professional referees who can provide an objective assessment of your ability to complete a master’s program. If finding an academic reference is difficult because you have been out of school for more than five years and have not maintained contact with faculty, consider finding referees who can comment on your abilities to study at a master’s level. Referees should comment on the criteria found on the referee form used for references that are not processed online. Familiarize yourself with these criteria before selecting supervisors and colleagues from your workplace, volunteer work or committees. Do not choose all your referees from the same context.
After you submit your application through the online application system, your referees will receive an auto generated email requesting a reference for you. They will have the option to fill out the reference form, or submit an electronic copy of a reference letter on official institution letterhead in PDF format.
References submitted electronically are tracked by the online application system.
If a referee is unable to provide an electronic reference, they must complete a paper form and mail it directly to the Rehabilitation Science Online Program in a sealed and signed envelope. Our mailing address is:

9. Submit your application
Once you complete all of the necessary sections of the application form and upload the required documentation, pay the online application fee and submit your online application. The process cannot be started before the application fee is paid. Visa or Mastercard payments are accepted.
It is highly recommended that you submit an application as soon as possible. Please note that transcripts can be uploaded onto your application after it has been submitted.

Applying to the MRSc with an Orthopaedic and Musculosketal Physical Therapy Focus
Learners interested in using studies in orthopaedic and musculoskeletal physical therapy towards an MRSc degree need to complete the above MRSc application process while concurrently contacting and sending required information to the Graduate Certificate in Orthopaedic Musculoskeletal Physical Therapy Program.
Checking the status of your application
After submitting your application, it is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that all supporting materials are submitted by the application deadline. The MRSc Admissions Committee will only review complete applications.
You can check the status of your application and supporting materials through the online application system. Please allow up to 6 weeks to process a complete application after the application deadline.
If you are admitted to the MRSc program you will receive an email indicating a conditional admission offer. A conditional admission offer will have a deadline to submit official documents in order to receive an unconditional admission offer – no course registration or start of program is allowed until these provisions are fulfilled and a new letter issued.
